Macrame Makes a Comeback

Macrame is making a comeback, and this time around, we’re all for it!

Once synonymous with the ’70s, macrame was in everyone’s lounge and throughout the last year or so, macrame has been making a very tasteful comeback. Macrame now has a firm footing in boho themes and decor and can be found all over Pinterest on DIY boards.

A few styling tips for your Macramé Wall Art pieces:

The textured nature of Woven or Macramé Wall Art tapestries can add loads of character to a particular space!  They are also a wonderful way to bring focus to a certain area. Large wall art pieces are perfect for this, such as above a bed instead of a traditional headboard, or above a beautiful old fireplace, on a narrow wall or above a lounge sofa. Whether you choose bohemian layered fringe pieces, black or other contemporary modern Macramé pieces, colour dip dyed hangings or a ‘macrame weave’ (using a combination of cotton and wool or other types of fibre), is entirely up to you!

Pair your woven work of art with beautiful neutral linen if in a bedroom, or if in a lounge area, you can pair your piece with a colourful couch that makes a statement, or colourful and textured cushions. Be sure to include a giant plant such as a fiddle leaf or strelitzia and your space will look absolutely stunning! Lots of light and open spaces are a must if you are investing in a large wall art item. By contrast, a colourful dip-dyed piece looks amazing paired with neutral bed linen or furniture that complements the colours of the dye.

For children’s decor, you might want to choose the typical blues or pinks for a boy or girls bedroom. It’s perfectly ok to choose ‘trending’ items such as rainbows or modern pastel dip-dyed wall tapestries as your decor will evolve as your little one grows!

But, tell us about the professionals…

Artesense is a local Durban company specializing in Macramé and Wall Art decor. Just over 3 years ago, Yvette (the founder and designer of Artesense), stumbled across Macramé knotting. She knew she had found a gap in the market for this age-old craft and began to teach herself how to make gorgeous modern home decor items by using the art of Macramé. Their range has grown to include large wall art and modern dip-dyed pieces, as well as wedding and event decor hire. Yvette loves to make customized items and makes beautiful pieces exclusively for Bunni, by Clever Little Monkey, from all-natural macrame teethers to macrame chandeliers and wall features.
